The young generation of Egyptian actors and actresses are having the biggest part of the cake leaving the leftovers for the older movie stars. However Egyptian actresses Hanan Turk, Muna Shalabi, and Hind Sabri expressed their anger after the failure of their latest movie “A7la Al-Awqat” (The Best of Times). The movie reached rock bottom of the new movies list in its forth week and made 223 thousand EGP this week. The total sales since it was screened 4 weeks ago reached only 1.436 million EGP the thing that made producers rethink the idea of making female-stared movies.
This is not the first failure for ultimate female-stared movies, “Kallem Mama” starring Abla Kamel, Muna Shalabi, and Dunia faced the same fate, as well as many similar movies like “Hub il Banat” staring Laila Elwi, Hanan Turk, and Hlla Shiha, which was expected to have a huge success in addition to wining many prizes in movie festivals.
Among other failures is the movie “Izzay el Banat Tehebak” starring Sumaya Khashab, Hind Sabri, and Hani Salameh. Despite the presence of male stars, the entire movie revolved around female stars and their relationships.
Currently the producer of the movie “Khalti Faransa” fears that his movie will face the same fate of the previous movies. The movie female star, Abla Kamel, commented that for a long time the movie industry has been dominated by male movie stars and its time for women to take the lead, but success needs a lot of time and effort in which we might face numerous failures until we come out with the right formula that makes a movie succeed.
Muna Zaki revealed that female stars still beg for leading role and producers are very hesitant to make ultimate female-star movies, adding that women are offered all the backing parts to male stars.
