Egypt’s iconic Omar Sharif passes away aged 83

Iconic actor Omar Sharif, best known for his starring roles in films Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago, passed away Friday at age 83 from a heart attack, BBC reported. 

The Egyptian-born actor received two Golden Globes and an Oscar nomination for his role as the feisty Sherif Ali in David Lean’s 1962 classic Lawrence of Arabia.  

Three years later, he was awarded a Golden Globe for his starring role in Lean’s Doctor Zhivago.  

His London-based agent Steve Kenis told AFP Sharif “suffered a heart attack” Friday afternoon at a Cairo hospital.  Kenis confirmed earlier this year that Sharif had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease
