For the first time, Britain’s best-loved pop reggae band UB40 will visit Qatar to give a live show on May 8 at Doha’s Ritz Carlton.

UB40’s inclusion of Doha on a tour that takes them from South Africa to Europe has been made possible due to the support of the Qatar General Tourism Authority (QGTA) and the Ritz-Carlton Doha.

The “show will be the first of many that will take place in Doha and will prove to be a major boost for the growing market”, David Tewelde, the QGTA general manager told the Qatari daily Gulf Times.

The group’s career has spanned over two decades, over 18 albums and more than 40 single releases, selling 50mn records worldwide.

UB40 has popularized reggae music around the globe with hits such as I got you babe, Red, Red Wine, Rat in my kitchen and One in Ten.

The Doha show has been organized by Dubai-based promoter Connection Sports & Music (CSM), which has brought to the region music stars such as Sting and Tom Jones.

CSM president Pancho Campo, said: “Qatar is a market that we have been watching very closely and one that we expect to evolve positively for the live entertainment business.

“We thank the Qatar General Tourism Authority, the Ritz-Carlton Doha and our other sponsors for making it possible for us to schedule this show with UB40 in Doha”.

The members of the band are Alistair Ali Campbell (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Robin Campbell (lead guitar, vocals), Terence “Astro” Wilson (toasting, rhyming, percussion, trumpet), Michael Virtue (keyboards), Brian Travers (Saxophones), Earl Falconer (bass guitar, vocals), James “Jimmy” Brown (drums, syncussion), and Norman Lamont Hassan (percussion, trombone, vocals) –
