It is only a little over a decade since the Taliban ran Afghanistan's capital city, Kabul but there have been a lot of cultural changes since then. Afghan women are still extremely conservative dressers but apparently no eyebrows were raised when a giant picture of US star, Britney Spears, in all her backless/strapless/blonde glory went up in Kabul's biggest shopping mall.
The scandalous singer, who burst on to the music scene as a naughty schoolgirl, with a hit song about domestic violence, went on to shock and awe her US fans with more and more extreme behavior. The mother of two was regularly photpgraphed without underwear on a night out famous kissed Madonna on stage.
Despite the US invasion, Afghanistan is a country that still struggles to get girls an education and only a very few women are getting out of the house and into the work place. Nonetheless, while keeping their women in full burka, the men of Kabul are happy to shop in Majid Mall with Britney's picture to accompany them.
