Former Girls Aloud star Cheryl has been released by record label Polydor as she continues to work on her fifth studio album.
The 34-year old is said to be considering other labels beneath the umbrella of Universal Music, with whom she is still signed, after parting ways with the label directly responsible for distributing her last four solo releases.
A source told The Sun: ‘There wasn’t anyone left at Polydor who worked with her in the past so it seemed the right time for a change.
‘She is still contracted to Universal so now it’s a case of figuring out which label is the correct fit for the direction she is going in.'
Cheryl's next release will be her first since 2014 album Only Human climbed to number seven in the UK chart.
‘The music is at an exciting stage though and everyone is working towards releasing the album this autumn,' the source added.
Despite her relationship with Polydor coming to an end Cheryl is understood to have enlisted the help of producer Naughty Boy - who list of celebrity collaborations include Lily Allen, Professor Green, Alexandra Burke, JLS and Tinie Tempah.
The Sun claim she has also reunited with songwriter Miranda Cooper, with whom she previously worked during her years with pop group Girls Aloud, in the hope of replicating hr past success.
Cooper was responsible for co-writing a string of hits on behalf of the group, amongst them debut single Sound of the Underground, Something Kinda Oooooh, Biology and Love Machine.
Taking to Instagram in January, Naughty Boy - real name Shahid Khan - shared a teasing snap of himself, X Factor winners Rak-Su and Cheryl in the studio together, with the cryptic caption: 'Watch this space.'
His post sent fans into overdrive, as they shared their excitement over the prospect of Cheryl returning to the music charts, with one user commenting: 'If you're gonna be creating some music with Cheryl then b***h I'm all ears.'
Naughty Boy previously revealed that Cheryl had originally spoken to him at a party thrown by Simon Cowell and the pair later agreed to collaborate together.
He told The Sun: 'Cheryl spoke to me at one of Simon Cowell's recent parties about doing something together and a future collaboration. I have actually got a song written for her now, so we will see what happens.'
Representatives were contacted for further comment.
