There’s a chance your annual resolution to up your fitness game rolled to a slow stop halfway through February. Or perhaps you’re among the enviable few whose commitment to physical activity is running laps around the rest of us. Either way, as summer takes over the thermostat, excuses to slow down the pace tease even the best of us. We’re here to keep you chasing your fitness goals with a round-up of spots where you can keep cool and active in Dubai all at once.

By the beach

Rise with early birds for a morning jog or fly with night owls on an evening run by the beach. Kite Beach in Jumeirah and The Beach in JBR are runner-friendly spots with soft and bouncy tracks to ease the strain on your muscles. The clearly-marked paths provide a traffic-free track with a shimmering view of Dubai’s coastline. After your run, take a dip in the water to cool off and relax sore muscles.

Before you dive in, make sure you’ve taken the necessary precautions to protect yourself from the warm weather. Hydrate well in advance and keep a chilled water bottle on you at all times. Avoid peak heat hours and use sunblock even in the earlier hours of the day.

Run through Ibn Battuta Mall

While exercising in malls is usually limited to strolling through shops, Ibn Battuta Mall is offering sporty shoppers the chance to sprint its halls at the latest Cigna Park Run. Take advantage of this chance to run through one of the world’s largest themed malls, inspired by the extensive travels of Arabian explorer Ibn Battuta. From the India court with its life-sized elephant to Tunisia and beyond, follow in the footsteps of the ancient explorer in a motivating run, which is free for registered Cigna Park Run members.

At Dubai Sports World

This Dubai World Trade Centre hotspot has dedicated 25,0000sqm of space to indoor sports, so you’re bound to find great running opportunities in the air-conditioned halls. In addition to volleyball, basketball, football, and parkour, Dubai Sports World also offers fitness classes and an indoor gym equipped with treadmills. You can book a pitch to use for your athletic pleasure, so gather a running group and reserve a section to host your own indoor fun run.

On the track

Rev up your engine and give sports cars a run for their money at the Dubai Autodrome. Every Wednesday, race cars and karts clear the road for a free evening of running, cycling, walking and rollerblading. The run takes place on the autodrome’s 2.46km floodlit circuit from 6pm to 9pm, and no pre-registration is required. Just show up with your gear (bikes are available for rent too but on a first-come-first-served basis) and hit the ground running.
