A professional mermaid has swam out in support of the Atlantis hotel group after ‘Splash’ star Daryl Hannah said its Dubai hotel offered a “fake” experience and plastic culture.
Hannah Fraser, who goes by the professional name Hannah Mermaid, said she was employed at the sister hotel, the Atlantis Bahamas, and found it “an amazing place to experience the Atlantis fantasy theme”.
Fraser (pictured) decided to don fish tails and become a professional mermaid after watching Hannah play one in the 80s comedy ‘Splash’.
Speaking in Abu Dhabi last week, Hannah said the Dubai Atlantis attracted parents who couldn’t be bothered to show their children the real Middle East. She singled out the hotel’s water park, with its imitation Mayan ruin, and its dolphins.
In 2011, Fraser was hired as a ‘living logo’ to swim around an almost identical water park and makeshift Mayan ruins at the Bahamas Atlantis and said that she was impressed. “I prefer to see large sealife in their natural habitat, however I can attest to Atlantis Bahamas creating a healthy environment for animals. I haven’t been to the Dubai Atlantis, so I cannot comment on Daryl’s perspective,” she said.
But the Australian-born mermaid, who is based in the US and saw the story at 7DAYSinDubai.com, added that she was impressed by Hannah’s conservation message.
