Despite a recent campaign launched against the film “Shari’ Al Haram” (Al Haram Street) starring controversial Egyptian belly dancer Dina and folk singer Saed Al Sughair, the film is witnessing tremendous success since its first screening on the first day of Eid El Fitr. The film is considered to be the most watched film during the holidays.
Producer of the film Ahmad Al Sabki admitted that he is not ashamed to present commercial films that contain numerous dancing scenes and songs stressing that people tend to keep away from watching dramatic films during the holiday and favor watching films that are more entertaining.
Ahmad added that the general taste of people with regards to the kind of movies they watch did not change after the Egyptian January 25 Revolution that overthrew the government of ousted President Husni Mubarak and in fact it remained the same. This fact is behind the success the film is witnessing and the large profits its making.
Before it was screened, the film witnessed harsh attacks after advertisements were aired stating that it contains too many dancing scenes, in addition to sexual connotations and use of foul language.
