Disputes have erupted between prominent Egyptian singers Hani Shaker and Amr Diab over the song “Habiba” (My Love), which Hani recently released.
After Hani released the song, he discovered that it already existed in Amr’s voice and was being aired on different Internet website and was considered the latest by Amr, but was not included in his last album.
According to the London based daily, Al Quds Al Arabi, problems between the two escalated when each singer refused to give up his rights to the song. Hani revealed that poet Baha’ El Din had presented him with the song, and it appealed to him leading him to record it and include it in his latest album.
Hani was shocked when one of the musicians in his band notified him that the same song was being sung by Amr, leading him to believe that someone had allegedly leaked the song.
Hani intends on taking the matter to court.
The musician also informed Hani that the clip of the song aired on the net was taken from a live concert Amr held. Hani immediately contacted Baha’, the poet, to try and remedy the matter.
Baha’ informed Hani that he had presented the song to Amr before showing it to him, but Amr never commented or expressed an interest in buying the rights to it.
Hani insisted on his stance and stressed that he will not remove the song from his album, which would cause him a financial loss, although he does own the rights to it legally.
Hani noted that he is willing to make an issue of the matter and seek legal consultations to ensure that his rights are preserved.
