The legendary Egyptian actor Ahmed Ramzi has passed away at the age of 82, after reportedly falling over in his bathroom.
Ramzi, born on March 23 1930, was the son of an Egyptian doctor and a Scottish mother. After failing to finish college, the star who would later become one of Egypt's best loved actors, decided he would build his career treading the boards. Ramzi's method of entering the world of acting was nothing but unique, and was helped along with guidance and help by fellow Egyptian legend Omar Sahriff, who would later put Ramzi in contact with the late, great Yousif Shaheen. Ahmed was hoping Yousif would offer a minor role in one of his films, but was later shocked to find out Yousif offered the leading role to Omar in his 1954 film "Sira Fil Wadi" (A dispute in the Valley).
Ahmed had to endure life behind the camera for some time, hoping that by being close to the action, his time would come to be a star of the silver screen, which came the following year. His first leading role was in the film "Ayamma Al Hilwah", directed by Halim Hafez (Our Happy Days), alongside his good friend Omar Sharif and fellow new actor, the late Egyptian legendary singer Abdel Halim Hafez. From that moment, Ahmed was aware that he had made it, and his dream of being an actor was becoming a reality.
By being a part of Egyptian cinema history, Ahmad became known as the Don Juan of Egyptian cinema, and took part in 111 different projects and was always the young handsome actor, after entering retirement in the 1970s. However, always the one to steal the limelight, Ahmed returned to the silver screen in 1995, providing a stunning performance in the film “Qit Al Sahra” (The Desert Cat) and in 2000, he starred in the television drama “Wajh Al Qamar” (Face of the Moon) alongside Egyptian diva Faten Hamama.
News of the Egyptian Don Juan's passing has not yet been passed to lifelong friend Omar Sharif, as he has recently suffered deteriorating health, and there are fears such news could have a negative impact on his fragile health. Ahmed's son, Tareq, has said that he will personally notify Omar at the most appropriate time.
