A respected Egyptian actor passed away on Wednesday afternoon after "being injected with the wrong medicine" at a Cairo hospital, Al Quds Al Arabi reported.
Ahmed Rasem had been suffering with kidney disease, which many thought led to his demise.
However, a close friend of the deceased, playwright Mahmoud al Toukhi, insisted that "human error" was behind Rasem's death, insisting that he was "poisoned by hospital staff after being injected with the wrong injection at Al Haram Hospital."
Al Haram Hospital manager, Dr. Hani Rashed, was quick to respond to the allegations by assuring the media and Rasem's family that his patient was admitted into the ICU after his health had deteriorated, adding that he died soon after his body became unresponsive to his treatment.
"When Rasem was admitted to the hospital he had already been suffering from diabetes, kidney failure and heart problems. He also had an abscess on his foot which became infected, and within an hour he was dead," Dr. Rashed explained.
Our deepest condolences go out to Rasem's family and friends.
