The Egyptian Higher State Security Court handed the director of the Egyptian TV Farah Clip program, Ashraf Gad, a 10-year jail term after he has been convicted of receiving 10,000 pounds in bribe from a lady in exchange of recording the wedding party of her daughter wedding and airing it within the program. Th court has also imposed a fine on the director amounting to the value of the bribe.
According to the UAE daily al Bayan, the court said in its verdict, “the Farah Clip program director Ashraf Gad Aref was caught red handed and the prosecution department investigations together with the recorded audiovisual cassettes confirmed the allegation. Meanwhile the court ruled that the broker , Abdel Rahman Mohammed Abdel Rahman, who works as production executive was innocent.”
Investigations revealed last December that the director of Farah Clip program had received bribes from families who sought to broadcast the wedding ceremonies of their sons and daughters.
The director confessed that he had received the sum of 10,000 dollars to deliver them to the program presenter, Nagwa Ibrahim, who was called for questioning. But Ibrahim denied any connection with the affair and as there were no evidences on her involvement in the bribery there were no charges against her. The program director and producer were referred to the Higher State Security Court, which has issued its sentence—Albawaba.com
