Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef's father dies in a car crash

This just in, Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef has announced on Twitter the death of his father Chancellor Ra'afat Youssef.

The tweet was posted on Saturday night, saying, "My father Chancellor Ra'afat Youssef has passed away in a car accident. May he rest in peace."

In another tweet, Bassem said, "I would like to ask the media not to disturb my brother or any of my family members during the funeral like they did when my mother passed away. Please be civil during this sensitive time."

More details are yet to emerge about the crash and the funeral.

Youssef's mother, Nadia Hamdi Saleh, passed away in 2013. At the time, Youssef paid homage to his mother's loving memory in an online article, where he talked about the special relationship he held with her and his constant worrying about her.

Dubbed as "the Jon Stewart of the Arab world," Bassem is currently residing in the US, where he is getting ready to become the first Arab to ever host the 2015 International Emmy Awards on November 23.
