As summer draws to a close, city life gets busier and busier. Here’s the lowdown on how to relax in the 24 hour metropolis we call Dubai.
And….breathe
Getting back to nature is a sure-fire way to recharge those batteries. Apart from an obvious early morning or sunset beach stroll (we recommend the acres of soft beach from the Burj Al Arab to Dubai Canal), it’s a good idea to completely escape the confines of the cityscape and hit the desert. You’re never far from tranquility, and for a spot with water, nature and all the beauty of the desert, try Al Qudra Lakes - less than an hour’s drive away, but a different world.
Park your thoughts
Since 1994, the 99 hectare hidden gem, Mamzar Park, has combined the best of outdoor recreation with ocean activities. Rent a cabin and snooze all day, cruise around on a hired bicycle, or throw a chilled beach barbecue; this is a spot where you can create a true holiday vibe in the city. Mamzar Park is notable for its special attention to facilities for People of Determination, too.

Creature comforts
Spending time with animals is good fun for the soul, and in Dubai you’re never far from an animal experience. Try City Walk’s phenomenal Green Planet, an indoor rainforest housing 3,000 different species of animals, insects, birds and flora. You’ll leave feeling refreshed and invigorated, as well as learning loads about the tropical creatures - this one’s a favourite with the kids, too.. Alternatively, enjoy a falconry experience with Royal Shaheen Events or try horseback riding at Desert Equestrian Club.
Enlightenment through exercise
Dubai is never short of the latest therapies, sports and other activities. Soothe your mind and body with a myriad of spa treatments, yoga sessions or a beachside bike ride. From the beach to rooftops, from urban lofts to salt rooms, there’s a yoga session somewhere waiting to relieve your stresses, aches and pains. Try a reviving and relaxing spa session or staycation at the new Retreat Palm Dubai MGallery by Sofitel on The Palm Jumeirah, or take advantage of one of the more esoteric healing sessions at Jumeirah Beach road’s Life ‘n’ One centre.
