Egyptian actor Farouk al Fishawy stirred controversy with a press statement he made about hijabi women at the Oran International Aarb Film Festival in Algeria this week.

The veteran actor revealed his real views about hijabi actresses, saying that he completely refuses their participation in any form of acting, as that would "banish their belief in their work."

He advised actresses who wear the hijab to "stay at home with their husbands, and leave acting to 'its people'."

The beauty of acting is that there are roles available to all types of people, whether they are thin, big, tall, short, old, young or whatever they may be.

Fishawy's comments were met with anger by actresses who wear the hijab.

Should they quit? Absolutely not.

Fishawy's views might have just cost him a great role alongside an equally great hijabi actress.
