Renowned Egyptian actress Faten Hamama has given her initial acceptance to play the leading role in the new comedy drama film "Al Wazeerah" (The Female Minister). The drama, written by Atif Bishai, revolves around the life of a female minister whose children attempt to overthrow from office due to the fact that she ever since her new position; she has been neglecting her essential duties towards them as a mother.

Hamama nominated director En'aam Mohammad for the direction of the film. En'aam had directed the series "Dameer Alba Hikmat" (Consciousness of Teacher Hikmat) nine years ago, which was one of Faten's career highlights.

Atif revealed that the film tackles social problems in a comical atmosphere. One of the main issues it focuses on is the obligations a woman has towards her home and work, especially when she holds such an important position as a minister.

The film, which will costar a number of new faces, is Faten's comeback to the big screen after an absence that lasted ten years. Her last film was "Ard El Ahlam" (Land of Dreams) by David Abdul Said, alongside Egyptian actors Yahia Al Fukharani and Hisham Salim.

The present lack of good scripts that suit the older generation of actresses was the main reason behind the artist’s lack of involvement in the cinema. Faten has been the undisputed queen of the Egyptian cinema for the past 50 years during which time she has played many roles that have captivated the feelings of people of all ages in Egypt and other Arab countries. This is due to her sincerity in performance, and brilliance in work, whether in form or content, for which she was nicknamed “The Lady of the Arab Screen”.

Faten has made over 150 films the two most important of which are considered to be “Conflict in the Valley”, and “Conflict in the Port” in which she co-starred with her former husband, the international actor Omar al-Sharif. She also performed in many TV series including “From Behind Doors” along with Ahmad Ramzi, “Dhamir Ablah Hikmat,” “Consciousness of Teacher Hikmat,” and “Moon Face” which was screened during Ramadan three years ago. –Albawaba.com
