Cat Janice, a 31-year-old singer and songwriter from Washington, D.C., touched millions of hearts with her final song, “Dance You Outta My Head,” which she dedicated to her son and her life.
The song, which was released on Jan. 15, 2024, went viral on social media and streaming platforms, reaching over 10 million streams and charting on iTunes Worldwide. The song also served as a fundraiser for her seven-year-old son, Loren, who will inherit all the income from the streams.
Cat was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that affects the soft tissues of the body, in 2022. She underwent multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments, and announced that she was cancer-free in July 2022. She married her longtime partner, Jake, in a small ceremony, and celebrated her life with her son, Loren.
However, the cancer returned in June 2023, and spread to her lungs, leaving her with little hope of recovery. Knowing that her time was limited, Cat decided to record one last song, as a way of saying goodbye to her fans, friends, and family, especially her son. She wrote the lyrics and composed the music herself, with the help of her producer and friend, Max. The song is a mix of pop and rock, with a catchy chorus and a powerful message. Cat sings about how she wants to dance away the pain and the memories, and how she hopes that her son will remember her with love and joy.
Cat shared her song and her story on Instagram and TikTok, where she received an outpouring of love and admiration from her followers. Many of them praised her courage, talent, and generosity, and said that they were inspired by her. Some of them also shared their own experiences with cancer, and expressed their solidarity with her. Cat responded to some of the comments, and said that she was grateful for all the kindness and positivity that she received.
