They recently announced that they were expecting their fourth child together.

And Steven Gerrard, 36, and his wife Alex, 34, appear intent on keeping their fans guessing about the sex of their child, if their latest offering on Instagram is anything to go by.

On Monday, Steven took to the photo-sharing platform to share a shot of himself and his wife sunning themselves on a beach in Dubai, alongside the teasing caption: '22 weeks... boy or girl.'

Blonde beauty Alex looked positively radiant in the image, which showed her wearing an animal-print bikini and wide-brimmed hat as her sportsman spouse lovingly wrapped an arm around her.

Showing off the results of his years on the pitch, the former Liverpool player - whose stint at LA Galaxy recently came to an end -  showed off his rippling muscles as he donned just a pair of patterned swimming trunks and sunglasses.

In November, Alex announced that she is expecting her fourth child with her husband of nine years.

Alex took to Twitter to share the good news, uploading a sweet snap of her three daughters looking at an ultrascan scan photo of their new sibling.

Along with the image she wrote: 'We are all very excited for our new baby to arrive next year !! number 4.'

Alex and Steven, who wed in 2007 after five years of dating, are already parents to Lilly-Ella, 12, Lexie, 10 and Lourdes, five.

Steven announced his retirement from professional football on November 24 after spending the last two seasons of his career with LA Galaxy in the United States.

He is yet to announce his next career move, but has expressed a desire to move into management at some point in the future.

The star held talks with League One club MK Dons following Karl Robinson's departure in November but ruled himself out of the running for the job - claiming it has come 'a bit too soon' after his retirement.
