Principal photography began Monday on the next installment in the MonsterVerse: Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019).
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the third entry in the MonsterVerse, a joint effort by Warner Bros., Legendary Entertainment, and Toho; it continues the trend created by the Godzilla reboot (2014) and Kong: Skull Island (2017). It is being helmed by Michael Dougherty (Trick 'r Treat) and was penned by Zach Shields (Krampus).
Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Zhang Ziyi, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Thomas O'Shea Jackson Jr., and Aisha Hinds will star.
"The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah," a press release said. "When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity's very existence hanging in the balance."
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) will be followed by King Kong vs. Godzilla (2020).
We assume Kong will arrive in a karate outfit.
