Alright, alright, alright! Were you a teacher's pet or class clown in school?
Hollywood A-listers Salma Hayek and Matthew McConaughey walked the red carpet with Bollywood stars Abishek Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra in Dubai last night to celebrate the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize, and share some school stories of their own.
Matthew McConaughey, who was joined by his wife Camila Alves, said that he was an A-minus student and credited his parents' work ethic as well as his favorite school teacher for his success in school.
Hayek claimed to be a bit of a daydreamer, with more naughtier moments than academic successes. She recounted how she once mounted revenge with a bucket of water on a naughty boy but wound up hitting the teacher instead. "I always paid attention", she said, "but I didn't study much!" Hayek, who was nominated for a best-actress Oscar for Frieda, was expelled at the age of 12 from a Catholic boarding school in New Orleans, Louisiana for playing pranks on the nuns.
Now a successful actress, spokesperson, producer and businesswoman, Hayek walked the red carpet to honor the 50 shortlisted candidates for the Global Teacher Prize, which was founded last year to honor the exceptional work of teachers around the world.
Hayek's fans were in abundance, and decided that even if she hadn't won an Oscar, they would give her one anyway!
Palestinian teacher Hanan Al Hroub, who grew up in a camp in Bethlehem, dedicated her prize to the teachers of Palestine.
Last year's winner Nancie Atwell, donated the million dollar prize money to the school that she founded, the Center for Teaching and Learning in Maine, USA.
