How big will Bella Hadid’s welcome be in Dubai?

If we were to go by the dictionary definition of 'supermodel' - which is 'a successful fashion model who has reached the status of a celebrity', then Bella Hadid, who is due to drop into Dubai for a Dior event at Dubai Mall on April 12, surely fits the bill.

Born into privilege as the daughter of real estate developer Mohamed Hadid and former model Yolanda Hadid, in Los Angeles, California, twenty-year-old Bella and her sister Gigi have made a huge impact on the fashion world in the past few years, walking the ramp for high-end designers and brands at every major fashion event you could waggle an exquisitely manicured finger or shake a Jimmy Choo stiletto at.

As a prelude to her Dubai visit, we take a look at what she's been up to recently, and leave you to decide why you should (or shouldn't) care.

Possibly one of the most photographed faces from the world of fashion now, Bella was in the news a few days ago for unfollowing her ex-boyfriend, The Weeknd, on Instagram. Ouch. Because in today's world of Virtual Insanity (yes Jamiroquai, you were on the ball back in 1996), cyber insults probably hurt more than face-to-face ones. Though we're not sure whether The Weeknd, who is currently romancing the lovely Selena Gomez, is too bothered at the moment about his former flame's movements, virtual or otherwise.

Instagram has catapulted many of today's celebrities to a staggering status of popularity, and Bella is no exception, with over 11 million followers on the social media platform. Unlike in the 80s and 90s, models now no longer need to depend on magazine spreads or billboards to ensure that they stay relevant and continue to make an impression on their adoring fanbase.

As a teenager I remember idolising models like Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford, who, I felt, not only had a flawless sense of style but also that certain 'x factor' which seems to be missing in many 'supermodels' today. Even if you're from a generation that didn't grow up watching them and other fabulous models of their time (like Linda Evangelista, Tyra Banks, Christy Turlington and Eva Herzigova) on the ramp, just check out George Michael's videos for his 90s tracks Freedom and Too Funky - and you'll see what I mean.

But to get back to the present, and Bella (who was voted Model of the Year in 2016), we want to pose this question to our readers - does she have that 'x factor' of the supermodels of old, that special quality that sets her apart from others? Tweet us or email us with your thoughts. We'd love to know what you think. Meanwhile if you want to catch a glimpse of one of fashion's hottest It Girls, head down to Dubai Mall for the 'Dior, The Art of Color' Exhibition event at the Fashion Catwalk Atrium at 10 am on Wednesday, April 12

Dubai seems to be the latest fashion hotspot for the younger generation of supermodels to be spotted in; Bella's sister Gigi was in the city in October last year as part of the global #TogetherTour to promote her #TommyXGigi collection, a trip that caused a bit of a stir with certain Instagram photos going viral, that got everyone wondering if Kendall Jenner had indeed accompanied her friend Gigi to our shores (that would certainly not figure on our personal list of the Greatest Unsolved Mysteries of All Time). Let's see if Bella, who is Dior's make-up ambassador, makes an equally staggering impact when she drops in.
