Veteran rocker Bryan Adams is promising fans a “romp” through his biggest hits during a live gig in Bahrain next month.

The Grammy Award-winner will perform at Bahrain International Circuit on March 13 as part of a world tour promoting his latest album Get Up. However, in an exclusive interview with the GDN he promised those in the audience hoping to hear some of his classic tracks would not be disappointed.

“It’s a romp through my older songs, peppered with songs from the new album Get Up,” he said.

He first shot to fame following the release of his 1984 album Reckless, which produced some of his most popular songs including Run to You and Summer of 69. His 1991 song (Everything I Do) I Do It For You became a worldwide hit, topping charts around the globe including the UK – where it remained number one for 16 consecutive weeks, setting a record that still stands today.

He also topped the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with Heaven, All For Love and Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman, while 2011 saw him inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. To date he has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time, but despite more than three decades of success the 57-year-old from Ontario, Canada, retains his appetite for recording and performing new music.

In fact, he told the GDN he was coming to Bahrain on a mission to remind people about the joy of loud guitars.

“With the advent of streaming, more people are discovering what they like,” he said.

“Rap seems to have a strangle hold on the world these days.

“I wish there were more loud guitars!”

The Get Up tour kicked off in Australia last March and is expected to continue for another year, with Adams proclaiming his new album to be one of his best yet.

His Bahrain appearance is one of only four shows in the Middle East, with others scheduled in Dubai on March 9, Lebanon on March 11 and Doha on March 15.

“I expect we will tour this album for another year or so, it’s one of the best ones I’ve ever made,” he said.

“I love the new (songs), they seem to have fit in perfectly with the ones we all know and love from the days of hit radio.”

The Bahrain show will not be the first time he has visited the country.

“I’m curious to see what has changed since the last time we were there,” he said.

However, he is expecting to play before a diverse audience when he takes to the stage next month.

I was talking to a friend of mine who was saying it was interesting to see the cross-section of people that attend the shows,” he explained.

“Sometimes we get put in halls that have alcohol and that prevents the younger generation from coming.”

And despite the many accolades throughout his career, including the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia for contributions to popular music and philanthropic work, he says the biggest highlight was being able to do what he loves.

“I always say that being able to pay my rent from doing what I love is the greatest highlight of all,” he said.
