Tiffany Haddish, the star of hit comedies like “Girls Trip” and “Night School”, is planning a trip to Israel to explore her Jewish roots and learn more about the country and ongoing war.
Haddish, who is of Eritrean Jewish descent, revealed her upcoming travel plans in an interview with Alma, a website for young Jews. She said she wants to go to Israel “to learn and see with my own eyes.”
The actress and comedian discovered her Jewish heritage later in life, when she met her father at the age of 27. He told her that he was an Eritrean Jew and that she was Jewish too. She then took a DNA test that confirmed her Jewish ancestry.
Since then, Haddish has been reconnecting with her faith and culture. She celebrated her bat mitzvah, the Jewish coming-of-age ceremony, on her 40th birthday in 2019. She also released a Netflix special called “Black Mitzvah”, in which she jokes about her Jewish identity and pays tribute to her African Jewish ancestors.
Haddish said she hopes that sharing her story will inspire other African-Americans to connect with their roots and history.
