Music icon David Bowie and Iman bucked the trend of many short-lived showbiz unions, enjoying a marriage spanning more than two decades.
As well as being a musical genius, Bowie was also a deeply devoted husband, and while the couple often tried to shy away from publicity, pictures and rare interviews give a glimpse into an unbreakable relationship which began back in 1990.
Speaking about the moment they met at a party, it was love at first sight for the singer who said he was “naming the children the first night we met”.
"My attraction to her was immediate and all-encompassing. I couldn't sleep for the excitement of our first date. That she would be my wife, in my head, was a done deal.
"I'd never gone after anything in my life with such passion in all my life. I just knew she was the one,” he added to Hello! magazine in 2000.
However, Iman - who hinted at the devastating news to come in a social media post days before her husband's death - later revealed the feeling wasn't completely mutual when they first met.
"I didn't want to get into a relationship with somebody like him," she told The Guardian.
“But as I always said: I fell in love with David Jones. I did not fall in love with David Bowie. Bowie is just a persona. He's a singer, an entertainer. David Jones is a man I met.”
And recalling the exact moment she fell in love, the Somali-born model shared: "I remember once the laces on my trainers came undone and David was down on his knees in the middle of the street tying them for me.
She added to the Daily Express: “I thought to myself, ‘This one’s a keeper.’"
They married two years after they met on April 24, 1992, in an intimate ceremony in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Gushing about his bride ahead of their big day, Bowie complimented her “overwhelming beauty” and added to People that she was a “smoky blend of Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn".
While gushing about the singer, the mum-of-two, who has another child from a previous marriage to basketball player Spencer Haywood, once said it was his “gentle soul” that she found attractive.
In 2010, she told Harper’s Bazaar: “My father taught me how to be a parent and gave me a positive connection with men because he is a gentlemen. And that’s what attracted me to David. He is a gentle soul.”
In the same interview, the 60-year-old also said she still fancied her husband just as much 20 years on.
"He always makes me laugh. It's like cabaret. I keep him entertained too,” she continued.
She even once proudly declared: “My marriage is exactly as fabulous as you all would think."
In 2000 the pair then welcomed their first child together, Alexandria Zahra Jones.
The new parents told Hello! months after she was born: "We've always been very close, but if it's possible we've been drawn even closer. There's a joy or a contentment that's almost palpable to both of us.
"Overnight, our lives have been enriched beyond belief."
