Sources close to Egyptian businessman and owner of Melody Group Jamal Marwan have revealed the reasons behind the shocking divorce from his wife of 14 years.
Reports emerged that after two years of financial losses, Jamal had transferred all of his assets to his wife, Jilan Sahmoud, and then his entire family moved to live in the US.
Sahmoud was opposed to the move, but followed him nevertheless. Four months ago she wanted to return to Egypt but Jamal wouldn’t let her. Jilan sought the support of her mother-in-law Muna Jamal Abdel Naser, daughter of the late Egyptian President Jamal Abdel Nasser, to try and convince Jamal to allow her to return.
Muna and Jilan’s relationship was on the rocks since she married Jamal, which led Muna to back Jamal in the fall-out.
As the dispute escalated, Jilan returned to Egypt and sold some of Jamal’s assets. Once Jamal learned of Jilan’s betrayal, he began his plan of revenge and resulted in him publicly announcing his divorce from her through a television commercial that was aired on his Melody satellite channels.
Sources close to the couple also said that Jamal used to beat Jilan and she in turn threatened to take him to court in the US and have him arrested.
Tell us what you think. Do you believe the allegations of abuse against Jamal? Was it unfair of Jilan to sell some of his assets? Or was he asking for trouble by transfering control of his fortune to his wife?
