The first trailer for the highly anticipated Fantastic Beasts: The Crime of Grindelwald has been released.

The second of five adventures - which has been penned by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling - follows on from the end of the first film, which was released back in 2016.

Now the first trailer for the upcoming film has been released and fans finally get to see Jude Law portraying Hogwarts headteacher Albus Dumbledore in action.

Giving fans a touch of nostalgia with the sweeping landscape vistas of Hogwarts, the trailer kicks off with a glimpse of the iconic school which first graced the big screen in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone back in 2001 and was the main setting for the boy wizard during his adventures.

However, the sequel - which is set years before The Boy Who Lives is even born - follows the Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald - played by a grizzled Johnny Depp - escaping from the Magical Congress of the United States of America.

Now the wizard is gathering followers to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

The sneak peak gives the first full look of Jude Law playing a young Albus Dumbledore, who enlists the help of former Hogwarts student and Magizoologist Newt Scamander - portrayed by Eddie Redmayne - who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.

The trailer shows Dumbledore talking to wizarding authorities about Newt and his mission, telling the group in a bid to keep his plan in motion: 'If you ever had the pleasure of teaching Newt, you would know that he is not a great follower of orders'.

The film boasts a stunning array of spellbinding effects and dramatic magical battles, of course alongside the titular mythical creatures.

With spellbinding action aplenty, fans were quick to show their appreciation about the sequel, with many taking to Twitter to voice their excitement.

One jubilant fan wrote: 'I was already super hyped for #FantasticBeasts but now it's on a whole new level', while another overjoyed viewer commented: 'My wand is so ready omg the trailer is amazing! It's going to be so hard to wait!'

The new film sees Redmayne and Depp reprising their respective roles alongside a number of other returning casts Katherine Waterston as Auror Tina Goldstein, Alison Sudol as Queenie and Dan Fogler as Jacob Jacob Kowalski.

Ezra Miller is back as Credence, Zoe Kravitz will take on the role of Leta Lestrange and Callum Turner will play Newt's brother Theseus Scamander.

The action of Fantastic Beasts is set to take place in New York, Paris and London, ‘where we will see love and loyalties tested in this tumultuous time in the wizarding world’.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is set to be released in UK cinemas on November 16, 2018.
