The Jordanian Bar Association has turned down an application by singer Aidah Al Americani, who would like to become an active member and thus practice law.
According to the London-based daily, Asharq Al Awsat, the rejection has come due to the fact that the singer wouldn’t be able to dedicate her time fully to her new career.
In a statement to Agence France Presse (AFP), Aida enjoys singing for Palestine said, “I will be ready to dedicate my full time to a law career when I become a member of the Bar Association.”
Aida obtained her BA in Law from the University of Jordan in Amman last January and submitted her application to the association soon thereafter meeting all official requirements. The Jordanian daily, Al Rai newspaper, cited association member Ahmed Tbaishat as saying, “the refusal was based on the association rules and regulations which prohibit combing a law career with another job.”
The singer said she would submit another application requesting the association to review the decision, as she is hoping to dedicate herself to her new career. She added that she does not obtain any financial profits from her songs, which she performs as part of her belief that such style represents “a kind of national activity I finance rather than a profession that generates income for me.”- Albawaba.com
