Kevin Costner is back in the saddle with his latest project, Horizon: An American Saga, a four-part Western series that explores the tumultuous history of pre-and post-Civil War America.
The Oscar-winning actor, director, and co-writer unveiled the first full trailer for the series on Monday, giving fans a glimpse of the sweeping saga that spans 15 years and multiple perspectives.
Horizon: An American Saga follows the lives of families, friends, and foes who witness the birth and growth of the United States of America, as well as the conflicts and challenges that shaped its destiny. The series will cover the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, and the aftermath of the war, as the nation struggles to heal and expand.
The trailer showcases the stunning cinematography, the impressive cast, and the epic scope of the series, which Costner described as “incredibly meaningful” to him. He said he wanted to “project what really happened” during that period, and to honor the courage and resourcefulness of his ancestors who ventured into the unknown.
The series will be released as a two-part cinematic event, with the first two chapters hitting theaters on June 28, 2024, and the second two chapters on August 16, 2024. The series will also be available on HBO Max later in the year.
The cast of Horizon: An American Saga includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
Horizon: An American Saga is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema, and Costner’s Territory Pictures Entertainment. Costner co-wrote the series with Jon Baird, who also served as an executive producer. This is Costner’s first directorial effort since Open Range (2003), and his first Western series since the Emmy-winning Hatfields & McCoys (2012).
Kevin Costner said in a virtual event on Friday, “What I hope is that this is something that stays with [audiences] forever when they see the movie.”
