In Morocco, on the occasion of Youth Day marking King Mohammed VI's birthday on 21 August, Egyptian popular singer Hany Shaker was honoured with a commander's medal.

Shaker, recently elected as head of Egypt's Musicians Syndicate, is a singer, composer and actor who boasts a long musical career stretching back to the 1970s with over 400 songs to his name.

In a celebration held at the king’s palace in Tangier, the commander medal was also granted to Emirati singer Hussein El-Gasmy, and Kuwaiti composer Mosaab El-Anzy.

A knight’s medal was granted to several Moroccan singers, including Saad Lamjarred, singer of the current hit song Lmallem (The Boss), and the Moroccan rap singer Mohamed Mazoury. Recipients of officer medals include Al-Basheer Lamjarred and folk singer Mostafa Borkon, while medals were also granted to actors and athletes in Morocco.

Saudi Arabian King Salman Bin Abdel Aziz along with members of the Saudi, Moroccan and United Arab Emirates royal families were present at the event to celebrate King Mohammed's birthday.
