It's not quite E3 yet, but the gaming world is already getting gold.

Kingdom Hearts III dropped a trailer an hour ago.

The game is technically the twelfth entry in the series, but the first “numbered” game since Kingdom Hearts II, which hit the PS2 back in 2005. The RPG series has protagonist Sora journey with (wait for it) Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Donald, as they traverse the worlds of both Disney and developer Square Enix, which includes games like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. His quest? To stop the outbreak of "the Second Keyblade War."

Newcomers to the series are encouraged to pick-up Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix, a compilation of older, remastered games in the series, published for PS3 and, later, PS4. Trust me: this particular brand of professional fanfiction needs its backstory.

The story will be set after 2012's Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, released for the Nintendo 3DS. Kingdom Hearts III will release for PS4 and Xbox One.

The trailer is a mix of gameplay and cinematic footage and sees protagonist Sora wield his big key-sword (I know) around in combat. It shows off new villains, new levels, new gameplay, and it looks gorgeous. It also teased its next reveal: "Join us next month at D23 Expo 2017 as we personally present a NEW WORLD and NEW TRAILER! July 15, 2017."

(D23 Expo 2017 is a Disney-based event in California that espouses on all upcoming Disney-related—to quote the businesspeople—“properties.”)

Watch it below:

Considering Disney's growth since Kingdom Hearts II: if you've ever wondered what would happen if Darth Vader and Sephiroth went toe-to-toe with Mickey Mouse and Captain America, well...this is probably the closest you'll ever get.
