Egyptian actress Laila Elwi described the quittance of some Egyptian actresses and their wearing of veil as strange phenomenon that arouses some question marks, but she did not confirm the presence of certain groups behind this phenomenon as some people claim.
“Wearing veil is not limited to actresses only but it also spread in the Egyptian society,” the Arabic daily al Sharq al Awsat quoted Elwi as saying in a press conference in Rabat where she is heading the jury of King Hasan II session at Rabat International Film Festival.
Elwi expressed her astonishment with the spread of this phenomenon among young girls adding that the fame of artists is the main thing that makes them enter the spotlight.
Responding to a question about the blasts against the Egyptian films for some of their daring scenes, Elai said, “I have been advocating realistic scenes in the Egyptian films since the time of the black and white movies.” The actress pointed out that she couldn’t judge the film Muthakarat Murahiqa (adolescent memoirs) directed by Enas al Deghaidi because she has not seen it.
Elwi who appeared slender denied the latest rumors that she was also gearing up for releasing a musical album like other actresses despite the fact that she said that she favored the album of actress Yusra and enjoyed seeing its video clip.
Commenting on her future plans, she said she was gearing up for shooting a 30-episode series, which will be aired, during the fasting month of Ramadan after the next without any further details about it.
