Prominent Egyptian actress Laila Elwi has denied recent circulating rumors that she is involved with Egyptian fashion designer Hani Al Buhairi and that the two are about to announce their engagement. The rumor was created after the two had been seen accompanying one another on several occasions, a matter that made people suspicious of the nature of their relationship. Hani’s presence has been mostly noticed on the set of Laila’s recent television drama “Bint Min Shubra”, where he took on the responsibility of designing all her dresses for the series.
Laila stressed that her relationship with Hani is strictly based on friendship not more nor less. According to the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Qatar based daily, the actress added that the fact that Hani accompanies her on the filming set or in public does not signify that they are in love or plan on getting married. Laila noted that she makes it a point to become very good friends with those she works with regardless if it is a male or female.
The actress revealed that she considers marriage as a sacred union that should be announced publicly, and when the right person walks into her life she will happily tell the world. Laila has recently turned down her nomination to star in the upcoming film “Amarit Ya’qoubain” and is replaced with Egyptian actress Elham Shahin. Laila did not give any justification for her decision wanting the matter to remain personal.
Recently, the film “Bahib El Cima” (I Love the Cinema) that has caused endless commotion in Egypt recently, was the main topic of a press conference held during the events of the First International Dubai Film Festival. The film was screened at the festival in the presence of its leading actress Laila alone because the director Osama Fawzi could not make due to a sudden deterioration in his health condition.
Laila stressed that the film features people from different cultures and religious backgrounds, and does not offend anyone directly or indirectly. She added that it merely displays struggles different individuals encounter when faced with desires that lead them to committing different sins. She added that the film tackles the issue of power whether political or at home and how individuals deal with the different powers that are imposed on them.
Lawsuits have been filed against the film since it was screened during the summer season. The film had failed to achieve the desired profit levels due to the controversy it caused and criticism it attracted.
