Mary Poppins leaves the Dubai Opera after its final showing today.
The family-friendly musical has proven to be a mega hit critically and commercially. The wonderfully colourful and vibrant production ran from May 1st at the Dubai Opera.
The show is adapted from PL Travers' wonderful novels and the Walt Disney film of the same name. For this production, Zizi Strallen plays Mary (originated by Julie Andrews in the 1964 original); Zizi's sister Mary played the part in London's West End. Bert is being played by Matt Lee.
The National was ecstatic about the show: "Indeed, it was difficult to find anyone, young or not so young, who was not still singing merrily away as they queued to order interval refreshments."

Not to worry if you're missing-out, though; the spoonful of sugar that helps this medicine go down is that Mary Poppins will be returning to the big screen sometime next year in Mary Poppins Returns, with Emily Blut, Marilyn Streep, Colin Firth, and Hamilton (yes, that one!) actor and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda starring.
