Tunisian singer Latifa has agreed to hold a July 14th concert as part of the Carthage Festival, marking her return to her homeland after a four-year absence.
Latifa’s approval came after the head of the festival, Mr. Raouf Bin Amr, promised to revive the festival, a request Latifa had made during several interviews. She had expressed concern that the festival was becoming too inclusive, and should be reserved for elite talent. The singer also revealed that she will be performing a number of concerts in Tunisia at other festivals.
Latifa is considering entering the cinema once more in the new film “Gana El Hawa.” Young director Mohammad Al Jarwani has nominated Egyptian actors Khales Saleh and Hassan husni to costar alongside Latifa in the film.
Latifa starred in the film “Sukoot Han Sawar,” several years back.
On a different note, surrounded by celebrities from all around the world, Latifa was for the second time presented with the Murex D’or award for Best Female Arab Singer at the Murex Golden Awards Festival. Critics, journalists and fans alike were polled to determine the winners at the Festival, to be aired on the Lebanese Broadcasting Company in the near future.
