Their long-awaited wedding was a lavish affair conducted in the sweeping country grounds of pop star Gary Barlow’s former home.
But while Cheshire venue Delamere Manor provided a suitably romantic backdrop, Coronation Street star Samia Ghadie, 34, admits her marriage to French ice skater Sylvain Longchambon, 36, was defined by one special moment.
Speaking to OK!, the actress reveals she allowed six-year old daughter Freya - her only child with ex-husband Matt Smith - to play a major part in proceedings.
Magical day: Speaking to OK!, Coronation Street star Samia Ghadie reveals she allowed six-year old daughter Freya - her only child with ex-husband Matt Smith - to play a major part in her wedding to Sylvain Longchambon
‘Freya walked me down the aisle,’ she said. ‘I didn’t want her to give me away as she’s never going to have to give me away in her life, so she walked me down the aisle as Sylvain is getting Freya as well.’
The actress is also a mother to son Yves, her first child with Sylvain, after welcoming the tot via caesarean section on September 24.
In a previous interview with OK, she revealed the name Yves is a tribute to Sylvain's brother, with middle name Joseph chosen out of respect for her late father.
The couple exchanged vows in front of 500 close family and friends at the sprawling country manor, three years after their first meeting on the set of defunct celebrity talent show Dancing On Ice.
But the first months of their romance were overshadowed by Sylvain's acrimonious split with Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe, who he also met on the ITV show.
The Frenchman controversially ended their two-year relationship during a tense phone conversation on Christmas Day 2012 after admitting he'd fallen for Samia, leaving the actress devastated.
Samia previously dated co-star Will Thorp - but ended their two-year relationship in December 2012, shortly after signing up for the show.
The pair started dating in January 2011 - just a few weeks after Samia left her husband Matthew after six years of marriage and one month after Will - who played builder Chris Gray in the soap - left his wife Samantha, the mother of his two children.
However, both Samia and Will insisted they didn't start dating until their marriages were over.
Three years after an inauspicious start Samia says she couldn't wait to marry Sylvain, admitting: ‘I was so happy I had to stop myself from running down the aisle!’
Despite her joy, the actress reveals that walking towards Sylvain prompted thoughts of her late father Joseph, who passed away in 2009 following a battle with cancer.
‘It was very emotional as I had Freya by my side, as my dad wasn’t there with me,' she said.
Reflecting on her special day, the actress - who shows off her sweeping ivory wedding dress on the cover of this week's OK! - revealed the day was themed to symbolise their love for another.
‘At the end we had a sand ceremony,' she added. 'We each had a vial of sand – mine was lemon coloured and Sylvain’s was blue. 'We took it in turns to pour the sand into another vial. That signified that our love is inseparable, as you cannot separate grains of sand.’
Among the guests in attendance included Samia's Corrie co-stars Antony Cotton, Catherine Tyldesley and Shayne Ward. And there was plenty of room for all the couple's guests, as the 100 acre Manor in Cuddington, Cheshire can host 50 to 250 guests.
The former pop star abode is said to boast six bedrooms, its own nightclub, three impressive reception rooms, manicured gardens, a Victorian pump house and a six-acre lake.
