ALBAWABA - Leonardo DiCaprio backed US Vice President Kamala Harris for President.
In an Instagram video, the Oscar-winning actor lamented the devastation inflicted by recent storms Helene and Milton, stating, "These unnatural disasters were caused by climate change."
"Donald Trump continues to dismiss facts. He continues to reject science. He pulled the United States out of the Paris Climate Accords and scaled back crucial environmental safeguards," DiCaprio stated. "Now he's promised the oil and gas industry that he'll get rid of any regulation they want in exchange for a billion-dollar donation."
Recent storms Helene and Milton, which DiCaprio described as "unnatural disasters caused by climate change," inflicted devastation.
"Climate change is killing the earth and ruining our economy; we need a bold step forward to save our economy, planet, and ourselves," the Oscar-winning actor and ardent climate change crusader stated in an Instagram video.
"That's why I'm voting for Kamala Harris," he said.
DiCaprio praised Harris' goals of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and fostering a green economy, but said Republican presidential contender and former US President Donald Trump "continues to deny the facts."
"He continues to reject science. He removed the United States from the Paris Climate Accords and reduced crucial environmental safeguards," he said.
"Join me in voting for Kamala Harris on Nov. 5, because we cannot afford to go backwards," the actor replied.
DiCaprio, an avowed environmentalist, did not explicitly support Joe Biden in the 2020 race but did attend a fundraiser for the president in Los Angeles. Before the 2016 presidential election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, DiCaprio exhorted the audience at the now-defunct Hollywood Film Awards to "vote for people who believe in the science of climate change."
