He was due to perform in Kansas on Saturday on her 35th birthday.

Yet, Liam Payne, 24, jetted back to UK to help Cheryl celebrate her birthday after fate intervened and his US appearance was cancelled.

According to The Sun, the Familiar hitmaker was scheduled to perform at a radio station in Kansas until it was cancelled at the last minute and he flew back to London to be with his love on her special day.

MailOnline have contacted Liam Payne and Cheryl's reps for comment.

The duo, who welcomed son Bear in March 2017, have not been seen together publicly in four months, with February's BRIT Awards the last time fans have seen them walking the carpet together.

The One Direction star and the former X Factor judge have been happily dating since 2016 but have recently been plagued with speculation that their relationship was on the rocks.

Yet, Liam hit back at the claims in a recent interview with ES Magazine and admitted that while they have their 'struggles' they have managed their issues together 'as a family'.

Last week, the Bedroom Floor singer also revealed that Cheryl had made the first move when they reconnected during 2014's season of The X Factor, with her 'tickling' him in order to get her flirt on.

Speaking on Radio 1's Breakfast Show, the former Liam was asked a list of questions that are supposedly based on 'facts' about him, with him clarifying whether or not they were true.

'Liam does not like a girl to make the first move...' stated host of the show, Nick Grimshaw.

'I don't know about that. I'm into it,' Liam objected. 'Chez kind of made the first move on me if I'm honest. She tickled my hair. I thought "oh you're into this". And now look... a few years later...'

Following Liam's appearance on her birthday, it has been confirmed that Cheryl will appear on new BBC talent show The Greatest Dancer alongside Glee star Matthew Morrison.

The 39-year-old star of stage and screen revealed the thrilling news as he wished his new co-star Happy Birthday on Instagram on Saturday.

Commenting under her glamorous selfie, he wrote: 'So happy you were born! Look forward to getting to know you better this year!'

The acknowledgement follows speculation that Cheryl will undertake a mentoring as a 'dance captain' in Simon Cowell's latest TV project, which is currently in development and is set to air in early 2019.

Meanwhile, Cheryl marked her 35th birthday with a selfie on Instagram, while her boyfriend Liam Payne failed to publicly acknowledge the milestone.

Thanking her fans for their 'lovely birthday wishes', the Girl Aloud star kicked off her celebrations by reuniting with her band mates Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts.

Flashing a broad grin at the camera, Cheryl looked effortlessly glamorous as she posed for the camera.

And while Liam remained silent on his social media channels,  Cheryl relied on her Girl Aloud bandmates to help ring in the occasion.

Nicola Roberts shared a sweet snap of the trio via Instagram on Friday.

The pop singer, 32, shared a beaming selfie alongside the Geordie beauty, and gushed about her long-time friend in a sweet throwback post.

In the three-way selfie, Nicola, clad in a pink polo shirt and fresh-faced make-up, flashed a small smile towards the camera with a glamorous and beaming Cheryl nestled up to her shoulder.

Kimberley wasn't too far behind, and lovingly clutched onto the Parachute hit-maker's arm as she cracked a huge grin for the camera.

With all three chart-toppers positively glowing, Nicola captioned the sweet snap: 'Friendship never ends. Birthday eve love for Chez last night'.

'So lovely': In the affectionate caption, the Lucky Day singer recalled how Cheryl had flown out to support her on her show in New York, and gushed over how 'lovely' the mum-of-one is

One photo was not enough for Nicola, who then posted another glamorous selfie with Cheryl and make-up artist pal Ama Quashie.

In the affectionate caption, the Lucky Day singer recalled how Cheryl had flown out to show support on her show at Madison Square Garden in New York, and gushed over how 'lovely' the mum-of-one is.

Nicola wrote: 'I took this in New York a couple of weeks ago when missy (Cheryl) decided to fly out with me to support me at my show.

'It was the first thing I had done in a v long time and it was just another example of how lovely you are inside.

'And when people were surprised that you had done something so kind all I had to answer with was that’s who she is.'

Explaining the pair were jet lagged following the New York excursion, the copper-haired beauty continued: 'I know I could throw anything your way and you’d be there trying to figure it out with me. I don’t know what I’d do without you. Happy Birthday beautiful'.

Nicola's sweet social media posts comes after rumours were swirling that Girls Aloud were going to reform five years after disbanding.

The pop group, who have been mired by rumours of acrimony since their 2013 split, are said to be reforming to mark their forthcoming 20th anniversary.

According to The Sun, the reformation is the brainchild of Cheryl, who came up with the idea and approached pals Kimberley and Nicola about it.

Nadine Coyle and Sarah Harding have now reportedly been approached about getting back together, and the wheels are supposedly in motion for a full reunion.

The reunion tour is allegedly said to be on the cards as the girls are keen to get things planned ahead of the band's 20th anniversary (which isn't technically until 2022). MailOnline approached Girls Aloud representatives for comment at the time.

The group were propelled to fame in 2002 on ITV show Popstars: The Rivals but they went their separate ways in 2013 following the split.

Nicola has always remained close with Cheryl her BFF but now all five members are believed to be in contact with each other for the first time in years.
