Tonight on the Ramadan drama “Al Ataar Wal Sabaa Banat” (The Spice Dealer and his Seven Girls), viewers will be shocked by the death of the most whimsical character on the show Hanieh, played by prominent Egyptian actress Majda Zaki. Overwhelmed with joy when her son Abdul Rahman, played by Nour El Sherif and his daughters find her (after days of looking for her when she wandered off looking for her late husband) Haniah passes away in hospital leaving her family sad and gloomy.

Majida Zaki has again proven her acting talent in the “Attar Wal Saba’ Banat” (The Spice Dealer and his Seven Girls). The daily quoted Majida saying “My role in the “Attar” as Hanieh was very challenging and in some way a risk, taking the role of the wife of El Haj Saleh (Nour al Sherif) and that of Abdul Rahman’s (Nour El Sherif) mother. The role is very different than that of Ameena which I played in “El Haj Mitwali last Ramadan”.”

Majida went on to comment that she was very pleased with the success and satisfaction her role as a mother found among viewers especially after the extra effort and time she put in studying the role to make sure she performs her part in the best way possible.

The daily also quoted Majida saying, “To allow myself to perform the role well, I mixed and mingled with a number of very simple women from the small villages. I studied their personalities to implement what I had learnt from them in my role.”

“I tried my best to avoid using the typical cane, eye glasses, and hunchback style of old people. Instead, she wanted to portray Hanieh’s strength regardless of the hardships she experienced throughout her life by working hard to raise her son as a single mother. Keeping my straight stature helps represent the hard labor a simple woman must undergo to maintain her strength in old age.” Majida added.

Majida’s future plans are to stream away from the typical sweet, simple, down to earth, and sacrificial female roles she usually takes. She hopes the next role given to her will be that of an evil woman, the complete opposite of what viewers are used to seeing her as.
