Hot on the heels of artist Wael Kfoury, Chaabi Adil trio Miloudi Tahour, Daoudi and Moroccan singer Ghita, Maroon 5 stormed the stage on Saturday night to perform at the most successful Mawazine Festival to date.

The American pop-rock group thrilled the audience with their hits Animal, Moves like Jagger, She Will Be Loved and This Love. In a pre-concert interview, lead singer Adam Levine said that they were deliberately changing some of the 'naughty lyrics' out of respect for the audience.

More controversial was opening act Jennifer Lopez's sexy attire and suggestive moves. Parts of her performance was broadcasted on national television, angering the country's more conservative viewers. A lawsuit has been filed against her and the festival organisers, claiming that her performance 'disturbed public order and tarnished women's honor and respect.'

According to Morocco World News, the Festival Mawazine Rhythms of the World, which was held in the Moroccan capital Rabat from May 29 to June 6, attracted a record total of 2.6 million spectators. 160,000 people attended Jennifer Lopez concert on the opening night, 190,000 attended Akon’s performance and 200,000 attended Avici’s concert.

Now in its 14th year, this year's Mawazine Festival brought together internationally acclaimed stars, such as Akon, Usher, Sting, Pharrell Williams, Avicii, as well as world music artists such as Assala.

Next year's festival is scheduled to take place on 20-28 May 2016.
