Egyptian actress Mervat Amin was nominated for the leading role in the new film "Nuktit Dam" (A Drop of Blood) the last script written by the late screenwriter Yousif Francis. In October 2002, Amin had turned down the offer to star in the movie, directed by Adel al Aa'sar's, after the family of the movie’s original director, Mr. Francis gave the needed acceptance to proceed, the UAE based daily Al Bayan reported.
"Late director Yousef Francis saw actress Amin as the most suited actress for the role. Unfortunately, he passed away before starting the movie and as I got the acceptance to do his work, I want to continue what he wanted and intended," al Aa'sar told newspapers. Amin’s first decision to decline the continuation of the movie came from the fact that after director Francis's death she felt that the movie should be called off and never be worked.
Amin returned to TV drama after several years sabbatical by taking the starring role in the Ramadan series “Yahia Al Adel” (Long Lives Justice) as Farida. The series tackles the issue of money laundering and depicts the September 11 attacks in the United States.
“I have chosen Farida character because she is weak at the beginning and defeated easily by the first shock she faces particularly after she discovers the falseness of the world of dreams she lives in. She gathers her mental and psychological abilities to counter many problems and defend herself and her small family. This comes after a series of heartbreaking and scaring threats which change her weak personality into a strong lady who steadfast against injustice and oppression,” Amin said.
On a different note, Egyptian director Mohammad Khan has succeeded in reuniting two great Egyptian actresses Najlaa Fathy and Mervat Ameen after 25-years of being apart, in a new film for the big screen.
The script for the new film has recently been completed and is based on the English novel Sisters. Both actresses agreed to work together in the film, which name has not been decided yet, since their last movie “Anf wa Thalath Oyoun” (A Nose and Three Eyes) quarter of a century ago. In the film, only one scene presented them at the same time in which Najlaa played the part of a young romantic woman and Mervat was the mentally disturbed one. –Albawaba.com
