U.S. pop artist Andy Warhol’s portrait of Mick Jagger, which hangs on the wall at the Jahan Nama Museum of Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural Historical Complex, has recently been restored.

The work had been despoiled by grease stains, dirt, soot and biological contaminants, which were a result of the poor conditions under which it had been kept, the museum announced in a press release on Sunday.

In addition, it had been damaged due to a high level of acidity on its edges. All the pollutants were cleaned off the work and the edges which had been contaminated were reinforced.

The portrait is from the “Mick Jagger” series that the celebrity-obsessed artist created of English singer, songwriter and actor, a founding member of The Rolling Stones.

The portrait and a large number of other artworks by many world-renowned artists are on display at Jahan Nama Museum, where Farah Diba, the wife of Iran’s last monarch Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, kept her artworks.
