American born Egyptian model and actress Sarah Fasha, granddaughter of "Thousand and One Nights" writer Taher Aboufasha, is on a mission to educate Americans about Islam, reports Egypt's Shafaqna.

The Egyptian-American has served in the US Navy and was a model before representing Egypt in the 2013 Queen of the Universe Pageant in the US. She came under fire on social media for not being 'Egyptian enough' or 'beautiful enough', and as a result became an overnight darling of the Egyptian press.

She said "Beauty pageants aren’t just about beauty, they are also about morals, ethics, accomplishments and more,” she said in response. She said that she wanted to be "a voice for Egyptian women and children, as well as for other countries around the world."

Fasha studied acting at the renowned Lee Strasberg Institute and her new YouTube show "What Do Americans Really Know About Islam?"  follows several television appearances. She hopes to correct common misperceptions about Islam in America. The simple questions are intercut with both correct and wildly incorrect answers.

Sarah is currently living between Los Angeles, CA and Cairo, Egypt, filming projects in both Arabic and English. Sarah was the guest speaker at TEDxBenha in Egypt in January of this year.
