There have been great composers across the centuries, but few have achieved Mozart’s lasting power. And now three of the music icon’s greatest pieces, created in collaboration with Lorenzo Da Ponte, will be in Dubai.
Don Giovanni is one of the most popular operas ever written. Penned by Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte, Don Giovanni is based on the legend of Don Juan, and concerns a manipulative, arrogant, and outrageous nobleman who finally meets his match—the ghost of a man he murders. Conducted by Hansjorg Albrecht and starring Mattia Olivieri, Don Giovanni will be playing at the Dubai Opera on September 9th and September 16. Both shows will be at 8 p.m. Get more information here.
The Marriage of Figaro—yep, that Figaro Figaro Figaro Figaro Fiiiigaro—was based off of Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais’s 1784 play. A comedy set in a castle, Figaro is a sort-of sequel to The Barber of Seville, penned by Rossini. Figaro will be conducted by Maurizio Agostini and star Filippo Polinelli in the title role; it will perform September 7th and September 14th at 8 p.m. Get more information here.
Finally, there is Così fan tutte—or Thus Do They All —which was Mozart and Da Ponte’s final collaboration. The plot involves two officers who decide to test the faithfulness of their girlfriends by disguising themselves and attempting to seduce them under a new guise, bringing-out their complicated, messy feelings. Conducted by Andrea Albertin and starring Chiara Tirotta, Karen Gardeazabal, Maharram Huseynov, and Francisco Brito, Così fan tutte will play September 8th and September 15th at 8 p.m. Get more information here.
