A row has erupted between Mohammed Munir and the Nobi singer Ahmed Salam over the 28-year-old song “Kol Ein Teashaq Hilaiwah” (Every Eye Loves a Sweety), composed by poet Ahmed Fuad Najm in 1973.
Salam, waving a notarized statement from the author that he says hands over the rights, insists that the song is his to record.
Nevertheless, Munir has taken serious steps to ensure the inclusion of the song on his latest album, asking Najm to cut Salam out of the picture for 10,000 pounds.
Najm told the London based Al Sharq Al Awsat newspaper that he had refused the offer, and reaffirmed his commitment to the agreement he signed with Salam.
“I can’t afford to sacrifice my reputation and principles, no matter what the temptations are,” he added.
Najm admitted that Munir was still attempting to add the song to his album “Masaken Shaabiyyah” (Popular Dwellings), which is about to be released.
For his part, Salam said that he would go to court if the song was denied to him, since he has the document from the author relinquishing his rights to the work - Albawaba.com
