Egyptian actor Mohyi Ismael who is considered the leader of psychological orientation in the Egyptian cinema, has wrapped up the script of a film on the Libyan president Muammar al Qaddafi.
“I met Colonel Qaddafi more than once and he gave me a set of his books. I based the story of the film on 12 of his books but the supervision and implementation of the work need only the first signal,” Ismael told the daily al Hayat.
Ismael will soon release a novel entitled al Makhbool (Madman) and a collection of poems in addition to scripts for three films and a play and he is seeking a director and a producer. He wrapped all of these works while he was in Paris during the period between 1949-1997, representing all his writings in 25 years.
About the character of Napoleon which he plays in the play al Cahira Fi Alf A’m (Cairo in 1000Years), he said, “During the German Director’s, Erving Laister, visit to Cairo to direct this play he saw me and tapped me for the role. A number of prominent directors collaborated in composing its cadences including the late musician Mohammed Abdel Wahhab. It is considered one of the best theatrical and musical shows performed in Egypt so far as it continued to be staged for three consecutive years.”
“This play was the entrance that led me to the cinema. When producer Ramsis Naguib saw the play he nominated me to play the role as draftsman in the film Beer al Hirman (Deprivation Well) along with Suad Hosni under the direction of Kaml al Sheikh. Then the director Husam al Din Mustafa tapped me for the role of a man who is epileptic in the film al Ekhwa al Aa’daa (Enemy Brothers) based on Dostoevsky’s novel. The film was screened at Tashqand International film Festival and won the first prize and in the same year I won the prize for the best actor in the Egyptian cinema.” Ismael added -- Albawaba.com
