Muslim Oscar-Winner Mahershala Ali is Your True Detective

Mahershala Ali is being eyed to star in a potential third season of HBO's crime drama series, True Detective.

Ali is is discussions to join the anthology series before True Detective Season 3 has been greenlit, however, sources close to the network say a third season will happen, Variety reported.

Ali is coming off his Oscar winning turn in Moonlight and starring roles in Hidden Figures and in a pair of Netflix dramas, House of Cards and Luke Cage.

Creator Nic Pizzolatto is said to have penned two episodes for a third season and has been joined by writer producer David Milch (Deadwood) to help with the project, Entertainment Weekly noted.

True Detective Season 1 starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson and Season 2 featured Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch.

In June 2016, McConaughey stated that he was he was open to returning to the series stating "I miss Rust Cohle, man," in reference to his Season 1 character.
