Syrian actress Reem Nasreddine received a huge social media backlash after admitting that she comes from Jewish roots.

The shocking (in Arab standards) revelation came about when the actress captioned a photo she posted on social media, "I have a mood that talks to the Devil, conspires with Jinn and cohabits with the Jews."

Social media users accused Reem of "making fun of Jewish people," but she dismissed their accusations by revealing that her roots are Jewish.

Meanwhile, a journalist, whom she referred to as "a critic or maybe a journalist or God knows what," accused Reem of reciting Israel's national anthem in the corridors of the Higher Institute of Cinema and Television, to which she responded:

"There's a huge difference between Judaism and Zionism. I'm Reem Nasreddine, a Muslim Syrian actress, born in Damascus with Jewish roots."

She further responded to Internet trolls's attacks and accusations against her by saying, "Are you directly accusing me of being a Zionist agent? And are all Syrians from Jewish roots not really Syrian? He (the unknown journalist) says they have the right to see them as enemies."

Reem concluded with the question, "Are Rabbis living in the old Jewish neighborhood in Damascus considered Zionists as well?"

The actress is currently starring in the eighth season of the hugely popular Ramadan TV series "Bab El Hara" (The Neighborhood Gate).
