Lebanese singing diva Nancy Ajram dazzled on stage at the Hyatt Regency’s newly renovated Crystal Ballroom in Dubai on Friday night as she treated fans to a thrilling evening full of hit songs from her career, which now spans more than 10 years.

The concert, scheduled to start at 9pm, began 50 minutes later as Ajram kicked off the performance with her 2009 hit, Mashi Haddi, after which she greeted the crowd, saying she was happy to be with them.

Known for her impeccable style and fashion sense, Ajram stole the night in a black, tight-fitting Alexander McQueen gown.

The pop princess showcased the Lebanese, Egyptian, and Khaliji dialects as she performed various songs, including Ehsas Jdeed, Lawn Eyoonak, Mishtaga Leik,El Donya Helwa and Ool Tani Keda, among others.

Of course, it would not be a Nancy Ajram concert without the hits that marked her rise to fame: Akhasmak Ah and Ah W Nos, both of which got fans of all ages dancing across the hall.

Crowd interaction

Ajram was courteous with her fans, bending down to take pictures with them whenever they approached the stage and dancing with a young fan on stage. Towards the end of the concert, she even sang an audience member Happy Birthday, drawing crowd applause.

The singer spoke to tabloid! prior to the concert, and expressed her enthusiasm about being in Dubai. “I love coming to Dubai. The audience here is from all over the world and there are many nationalities that attend my concerts. I heard there will be Indians and Russians today. Usually, there are also people from France, GCC countries, and of course, Emiratis, Lebanese, and [other Arabs],” she said.

Indeed, a multi-national audience filled the ballroom, and while there were plenty who did not understand Arabic, they were dancing along and having a great time.

Junifer Pedersen, an audience member from the Philippines, said: “I enjoy the music even though I don’t understand it. I love Nancy’s voice, and I listen to her a lot on YouTube.”

Others such as Rosita Saee, an audience member from Iran, agreed. “The concert was excellent. We love Nancy, and she’s very loved in Iran. My favourite song was Ah W Nos,” said Saee, who is in Dubai on vacation.

Mina Salman, an audience member from Iraq, had come from Sharjah to attend the concert and said: “The event was organised very well and Nancy was great. I love all her songs.”

Ajram was accompanied on stage by three back-up singers and 10 instrumentalists. She will next perform in Cairo on November 25.
