In Dubai, New Year’s Eve is no small occasion. The city sets the stage for the brightest and biggest celebrations, from record-breaking fireworks to dance parties that get everyone in the groove. If you’re want to keep the whole family entertained, we’ve brainstormed what you can do this NYE.

Midnight picnic

Bundle up, pack a basket of goodies and games, and enjoy a beachside picnic. Dubai’s beaches are endless fun in the day, but they’re a sparkling sight at night – bring along the whole family and start 2019 doing something a little offbeat. If you find yourself at Kite Beach or Black Palace Beach, you’re up for an extra treat: when the clock strikes midnight, you’ll find yourself with front-row seats to Burj Al Arab’s amazing fireworks.

Dine Downtown

Downtown Dubai is like a giant, luxury foodie haven, offering tempting cuisines and exciting culinary concepts from around the world. Treat the family to a night out at one of Downtown's trendy eateries offering a range of NYE packages based on what your taste buds are craving. We’d recommend booking an alfresco dinner by the waterfront along The Dubai Mall or Souk Al Bahar, so you can get a clear view of Burj Khalifa’s iconic fireworks display.

Have a blast

If Downtown sounds a little daunting this time of year, you have other options. Drop a pin at Festival Bay in Dubai Festival City Mall to catch the incredible IMAGINE show, which is upping its dazzle for New Year’s Eve. The family-friendly show will be more mesmerising with the backdrop of not one, not two, but four fireworks displays on the hour, every hour from 9pm until midnight. Call ahead to book a table at one of the mall’s waterfront restaurants so you can enjoy dinner and a show.

Glamorous galas

Dress to the nines and dance into 2019 at one of the city’s extravagant galas. Atlantis, The Palm is hosting its annual NYE Royal Gala where parents and children can each enjoy a party perfect for them. There’s a 30-piece live band and feast for adults, an Under the Sea-themed party with bouncy castles and outdoor cinema for kids, and The Palm’s brilliant fireworks show for everyone.

Even Emirates Golf Club has laid out a red carpet affair on its lawns for a night of dinner and dancing. Jive to classics by Queen and ABBA ,or new-age mixes by live DJs, while feasting on a delicious spread. Kids get in with a discount so that everyone can celebrate together.

Sensational staycations

It’s not too late to avail the great packages available at Dubai’s many luxurious hotels. Whether you’re visiting or a long-time resident, it’s the perfect excuse to unwind with world-class hospitality and comfort.

QE2, the legendary ocean liner-turned-floating hotel, has put together a NYE offer for a two-night stay plus a host of extras for the entire family. Lido and Pavilion are setting up an international buffet, live music and an interactive kids’ area to entertain the whole family, while The Grand Lounge is setting the stage for a Royal Variety Show featuring tribute bands, comedy acts, illusionists and dance shows.
