Egyptian screenwriter Sami Ghenaim has wrapped up scripting the historical series Amr bin al A’ss and tapped the renowned actor Noor al Sherif to play the main character.

The series tells about the life history of the Amr bin al A’ss since youth and before he became Muslim when he traveled behind Muslims to instigate the Ethiopian king, Nagassi, against them.

Bin al A’ss continued his enmity to Islam until he declared his Islam after the prophet’s Hijra (moving from Mecca to Medinah) and became one of Islam’s pillars through his conquests.

He continued with his wars along with the prophet until Caliph Ottoman bin Affan’s tenure when he was put aside. The series also tackles the life history of the Islamic leader including the time when the Caliph Ottoman was killed, differences between Mua’wiyah and Ali and the arbitration incident. Then bin al A’ss was appointed ruler of Egypt but the trick of arbitration remained a source of concern to him until his death.

“The best actor to play Amr bin al A’ss is Noor al Sherif whom I had in mind while I was writing the script. The most capable producer for the series is the production department,” Ghenaim told the daily al Gomhuria.

He added, “there is no time limit for wrapping up the script of the series. For example, it took me three years to write the series al Fursan (Knights). By nature I prefer that every work should take enough time to come out in the best possible form. Haste doesn’t create creativity and history is full of characters,” added Ghenaim-- Albawaba.com
